Make sure your AC is actually sized correctly
An oversized AC system cools the air quickly without running long enough to properly remove humidity, since dehumidification happens gradually over a complete cooling cycle, not instantly. This is one of the most common, and most overlooked, causes of a home that feels humid despite the AC working.
A dedicated whole-home dehumidifier
For homes in consistently humid conditions, a dehumidifier integrated directly into the HVAC system can manage humidity independently of the cooling cycle, which is more consistent than relying on the AC alone, especially during mild but humid weather when the AC isn't running long cycles.
Address ventilation and moisture sources directly
Bathroom and kitchen exhaust fans that actually vent outside (not just recirculate), a properly sealed home envelope, and addressing any known sources of moisture intrusion (a damp crawlspace, an ongoing plumbing leak) all reduce the humidity load your HVAC system has to manage in the first place.
Keep your system properly maintained
A dirty evaporator coil or restricted airflow reduces a system's ability to dehumidify effectively, even if it's cooling the air to the right temperature. Regular maintenance supports proper humidity control, not just efficiency and comfort in the narrow sense of temperature alone.
